The group of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (GMMM), currently leaded by Professor  María Luisa Fdez-Gubieda, is an interdisciplinary group consisting of physicists, chemists, engineers, biologists and biotechnologists working together. The group was founded in the late eighties by Professor Jose Manuel Barandiarán, being part of the network of excellence of the Basque Government since the first convocation in 1997. The research unit has a long history in the preparation of functional  magnetic materials and nanomaterials, as well as in the study of their properties and subsequent applications.

The group is closely linkes to BCMaterials, Basque Center on Materials, Applications and Nanostructures. It is an autonomous research center launched in June 2012 by Ikerbasque, the Basque Foundation for Science and the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) as a research center for Materials, Applications and Nanostructures. The center is included in the BERC’s (Basque Excellence Research Centers) network and its mission is to develop high-quality interdisciplinary research in multifunctional and active Materials, from basic to applications.

Our research interest is centred upon the study of smart (active) materials, advance funtional materials and non-conventional magnetic nanoparticles for their use in biomedical applications.

What is their role in NanoBioAp?

As a multidisciplinary network,we complement each other.
